Christena Curry

Christena (Dykstra) Curry from Pictou Landing First Nation has been involved in sport all her life.

Competing in basketball, soccer and track & field at various levels and then went onto coaching. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of New Brunswick in Recreation & Sports Studies.

She competed at two North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) 2006 and 2008, and coached Athletics in 2014, and 2017. She currently works in Millbrook First Nation, first as the Milkmaw Physical Activity Leader, then growing the program/ department – now working as its Manager for parks, recreation and youth.

She has positively impacted the lives of many Mi’kmaw youth, through her coaching, mentorship, role modelling and through opportunity creation.

  • Head coach (Athletics), Team Nova Scotia, North American Indigenous Games, 2014, 2017.
  • Inaugural class of the Black & Indigenous Coach Mentorship program with MK & Sport Nova Scotia.
