Barry Bernard Barry Bernard from We’koqmaq First
Nation started his boxing career at the
age of 13. He turned to coaching and
promoting boxing and in 2001, he was
appointed to the Nova Scotia
Professional Combat Sports Authority.
He also has officiated numerous
boxing events from Pro Am
showcases to amateur cards.

Nation, for over 6 decades he has
been involved in sport not only as
an athlete but also a coach and a
builder for not only the community
but also the Nation.

Christena Curry Christena (Dykstra) Curry from Pictou
Landing First Nation has been
involved in sport all her life.
Competing in basketball, soccer and
track & field at various levels and
then went onto coaching

Christien Marshall Christien Marshall from Membertou
First Nation has paved the way for
many Mi'kmaq youth on a national
level of baseball. Christien was one
of the first Mi kmaw youth to ever
make it to a Canadian little league
national championship at the age
of 13.

Natalie GooGoo Natalie (Nat) GooGoo from
We'koqmaq First Nation has been
involved in women's softball from
the age of 12 years old.

Terry Bernard Terry Bernard, who comes from
Wagmatcook, has been involved in
sport for most of his life. Starting
as an athlete, Terry took to hockey
and softball, which helped shape
who he is today as a builder.

The Mi’kmaq Sport and Recreation Council hosted the inaugural Aboriginal Sport Hall of Fame in 2016 to ensure recognition of outstanding sport accomplishments and achievements by Nova Scotian Mi’kmaw.

Our goal is to enhance the awareness and importance of the historical and cultural component of sport within the Aboriginal community of Nova Scotia and recognize and celebrate outstanding sport achievements and contributions of Nova Scotia Aboriginals.
